Project Overview

The MakroSan Superior Genetic program, established in strategic partnership with BRIN, serves as the technical cornerstone for the advancement of high-yield Pongamia pinnata (Malapari) in Indonesia. To date, the collaboration between SANTI and BRIN has identified approximately 43 candidate clones characterized by high oil yields and superior productivity, which are currently being prepared for strategic cross-breeding programs. Focused on isolating the most productive clones from diverse seed origins, this initiative is structured across four primary developmental pillars:

  1. Exploration: Conducting comprehensive germplasm field research and securing vegetative samples through extensive tree inventories, genetic harvesting, and propagation sampling across key geographic regions including Carita, Alas Purwo, North Maluku, and Bangka.
  2. Research: Utilizing rigorous phenotypic and genetic profiling to identify elite mother trees characterized by superior oil yields and high productivity standards.
  3. Elite Seed Development: Refining vegetative propagation methods to ensure the standardized and stable mass production of high-performance bioenergy clones for sustainable feedstock supply.
  4. PoMa Hub Nursery: Establishing an advanced nursery and hardening facility in Bogor, developed with Four Pride and BRIN to test scalable plant acclimatization protocols.
