Project Overview

The Sorghum Value Chain Study aims to establish a comprehensive renewable energy ecosystem in Indonesia by developing multiple sorghum co-products through strategic research and industrial partnerships. Central to this intiative is a joint study with PT Pertamina and PT Summit Niaga focused on extracting Bioethanol from Sorghum juice, addressing Indonesia’s projected demand of over 2 million kilo liters by 2030.

For Biopellet production, the bagasse is designated for biomass co-firing in coal-fired power plants, aligning with national carbon reduction targets. A key milestone includes the scheduled 2025 combustion testing of Binex sorghum pellets at the Tanjung Jati B (TJB) power plant. Additionally, the utilization of Sorghum Seeds to produce various food products is crucial for ensuring food security.

This collaborative effort, formalized by a partnership agreement on December 20, 2024, among PT Santi Energi Hijau, BRIN, PT Summit Niaga, and BINEX Inc., also explores the economic feasibility of the value chain and the potential for soil carbon credtis through sustainable cultivation
